They never gave me correct material to pass any entrance exams. What a mess. They had me sign all the hiring documents for a transcriber position, sent me the test, but the audio links they provided didn't work. For 2 months I contacted them for help but never got any. One time they re-sent the same defective test to me, but never any help acknowledging or resolving the problem.
None of the people I dealt with were ever in the U. Super discouraged with this company. Before you can start working on various tasks, you must pass the qualification exam.
Once your candidature is approved for certification, you will get an exam email with detailed instructions. Within seven days you have to study pages of the general guideline which consists of rating rules and concepts. The guide explains you how to do the rating of search results and assessment of quality of web pages.
You should follow these rules and not use your personal judgment. What they want is for you to represent a typical user in your country. Before you proceed with the exam you need to study the guideline at least twice paying particular attention to practical task examples. Note: At the stage of examination, Lionbridge provides candidates with very helpful exam preparation support.
You will get access as an exam guest to the Lionbridge learning portal where you can listen to webinars and even try to do a few practical tasks before proceeding with actual exam. There are three parts in the exam: you can proceed with the next part only if you pass the previous one.
Once you complete any part of exam, within minutes you will receive an email with information about results. Google updates the way the exam is done from time to time. The main feature that has been changed is that you must rate pages from your smartphone send to device tasks. If you do not have smartphone, they say you cannot apply for this job.
This is due to the fact that the number of mobile users is constantly growing and the company wants to assess websites from the perspective of on-the-go mobile users. In this part of the exam you will be assessed on how well you understand the theoretical part of rating concepts, as well as on your ability to interpret questions and search for information in the general guidelines.
It is an open book exam, so you can use the general guidelines to find answers to the test questions. Read questions carefully, some of questions can be tricky in terms of their wording.
Note: Do not leave incomplete tasks more than for 1 hour, otherwise they will expire and you will fail the exam automatically. In most cases an hour would be enough to complete the theoretical part of the exam.
The following message will be shown to you once you have submitted the last page of questions:. Within a few minutes a result notification email will come to your gmail, and in the case you are successful with part 1, the next part will be available in a few minutes minutes.
In this part of the exam you will be asked to assess 7 web pages for their quality. My advice for this part is to check all quality aspects, and fill in the online form very carefully so you can give a correct overall quality score from lowest to highest to a page. You should expect low quality web pages, 2 high quality web pages and medium quality web pages. However this is not a rule, sometimes candidates get pages of high or medium quality pages and only 1 or 2 of low quality pages to rate.
Keep this in mind. In order to give correct ratings, examine web pages for ETA Expertise, Authority and Trustworthiness criteria very carefully. If you want, you can take a rest. The tasks are still available when you sign in. Again, if you pass this part, the company will send you an e-mail saying that you can proceed with part 3.Find jobs Company reviews Find salaries.

When I would start my workday I would log on to the Lionbridge client and see what kind of tasks were available. Work time was based on what was available and how much you chose to do. Yes 25 No 1. As a gig it's not that bad, you can make some decent money and there have been few weeks in my time working there where I haven't logged the full 20 maximum hours and occasionally more. No sick days, holidays or insurance, but that's the name of the game, and you also get the benefit of setting your own hours. They also manage to stick applicants with a rather grueling training period oh wait, not training, they'd have to pay you for that where you get to sweat through reading the very long set of guidelines they're gonna hammer you with for the rest of your time there and doing tests to prove you've read it.
The work is generally easy once you get the hang of it and understand how to manage your time within their guidelines. Or at least, it seems easy - there are certain tasks that are subject to monthly evaluations that your job will depend on, which adds some stress. Add to that the fact that they have a poor culture of communication with raters and their primary method of discipline for scores below a certain threshold is to cut off access to work for days or even weeks at a time with minimal or no communication and you've got a rather mixed bag.

They actually hire a variety of at home positions, but the web content assessor aka internet assessor, search engine evaluator, etc are most popular. They say they take a few weeks to contact you, but they contacted me in a couple of days. After you agree to certain conditions, you are sent the training materials and instructions for taking the exam.
The training booklet is almost a few hundred pages. You have to memorize the entire thing, which is followed by a series of 3 exams. You are helping to rate the quality of search results that show up when users type in specific search queries. Depending on the exact job you were hired for, you may focus on different results — for example, video, social media, ads or websites. You are given tasks, which are independent search queries people may enter in the search box when looking up information on a certain topic.
Your job is to assess the front page results and see if they are relevant to the search. You may need to rate the quality of the top 10 results as to how relevant and helpful each are, as well as fill out open-ended questions to explain why you rated things the way you did. If this happens too often you will get fired. The problem with this type of work is it is so subjective, and not everyone is an expert on every topic.
There is so much gray area it makes trying to assess it with any type of accuracy or standardized rules rather difficult. Would you be able to assess the top 10 results and explain which ones should be first, second, third etc? It may sound pretty darn good, but it is definitely very misleading. Like stated previously, there are things to take into account.
While these are legit positions, they are definitely not for most people. But keep in mind you have to be willing to put in a lot of unpaid time, and it will be hard to keep up to quality standards. Your job is also not permanent and you could be let go at any time. You can check my top training program for building your business with affiliate marketing here. God bless you. Good article, Wendy. Share List. Comments Brilliant Article, Wendy! The problem with the timesheet disaproval started to happen in May-June In one case, one of our readers PrestigiousExplorer says that after working one year for Lionbridge the same thing has now happened to him and the company wants him to deduct 68 hours!
Now suddenly here you have a bunch of people being asked to shave a lot of hours off their time sheets, and even people who have been working for the company for a long time and then suddenly are having issues.
If you were subject to a timesheet disapproval then you might be stuck with it. Lionbridge seems to be very unprofessional in the handling of this problem. But the fact that no one has caught the problem with timesheet disapproval or made any statement about this timesheet disaproval problem since it started happening in July leads one to believe in some kind of conspiracy here.
Some people are calling Lionbridge scammers because of what is going on. It does appear the company had the same kind of problem with timesheet disaproval in May in which they sent out incorrect data. There are some laws that protect freelancers and independent contractors, and if you are doing the work, then you should be paid.
But for freelancers and independent contractors, your options are limited depending on what country you live in. Real timesheet correction required due to low productivity vs. Lionbridge error. In this project, most of the tasks do not have any recommended time limits. Raters have to manage their own productivity and their own time.
Lionbridge Review: Why I Am Glad I Failed as an Internet Assessor
The customer does not indicate average estimated time because the priority is quality in rating the tasks rather than productivity, or how many tasks you rate. Raters have to keep in mind that the productivity and time invoiced should be within reasonable metrics. It is OK to spend more time in the beginning and increase your productivity when becoming a more experienced rater. Appen and Lionbridge have productivity metrics called RPH. In my view this metric is not useful, because in many cases raters get different types of tasks which require a different amount of time to complete, therefore the RPH metric is not accurate at all.
The customer understands this issue. That is why they do not indicate the average estimated time. But it would seem that Appen and Lionbridge have again invented their own metrics to pay less to its raters. Perhaps if the right people receive a large response on the issue, someone will take a look and fix the problem.
