Decided to give the pricier Yamaha a listen. I was VERY surprised. Right out of the box in my system the Yamaha exceeded the Onkyo's detail, soundstage and air. The Yamaha's sound is only improving with regular play. Music seems far more "natural" sounding to my ears than through the Onkyo.

Tough choice between Onkyo's "value" and Yamaha's "natural sound. Read more. By Corn Fed. I'm very pleased with the Yamaha CD-S It's quality from top to bottom. Heavy and solid. My only complaint is that the power cord is very cheap. However that is easily upgraded. The rest of the unit is top notch. Performance wise, it's an absolute pleasure to listen to. Reveals every nuance of the recorded material. I might add that it is only as good as the rest of components associated with it.

Amplifier, interconnects, quality speaker cable and speakers complete the package. I was also able to get it at a discounted price which makes it even more appealing. I recommend it highly. I've had the unit for a few weeks now and it has performed flawlessly.

Amazon lumps all the cd-s series together which makes the review appear to be in the wrong place. This system uses a dependable DSP Digital Signal Processorexclusive for CDs, to monitor the signal, adjusting pickup tracking and focus, as well as spindle motor speed, to compensate for any problems" This is utter b. I was skeptical of this part when I bought the player since I couldn't see any way for this player to ignore errors that other players found.

I was right. Otherwise, it seems to work fine. This site uses cookies to help personalise content, tailor your experience and to keep you logged in if you register. I was doubtful initially as well until I compared them directly. At the time I was considering a nice player from Cambridge, a new top of the line Sony or Marantz or the Denon.

To this day, I am very happy with it. I think it can still be used as a reference player. Usually, if you want to see what these Denon CD players can really sound like, you need to connect them directly to your main amp via the variable outputs on the back. Then you'll see just how much degradation is being added by the pre-amp and just how amazing the sound is.

A lot of people who hated these players back in the day was most likely due to the result of bad synergy with crappy dolby pro-logic receivers.Menu Menu. Previous Next. Marchetto Member. Jan 3, 8 0 Hello, everybody. I'm from Italy. I would like to replace my old amplifier from the eighties a JVC A-S7, almost "dead" by now with a new generation one. It should match my old pair of Bowers and Wilkins DM speakers although in the near future I would like to upgrade to floor-standing speakers.

I listen mostly rock, soul and pop and also some jazz and classical music : my sources are a Yamaha CD Player, a turntable for my old vinyls, and recently a LG blue-ray player for live concerts and reissued album in blue-ray format although not for home theater 5. Also keep in mind that in the next future I would also like to add a streamer.

And which other amps would you suggest?

Even at max power 1 db won't make a huge enough difference to what you should buy, it would be the sound quality you would choose the on not power.

Last edited: Jan 4, Sep 20, 5, Can you demo any of these amps? It really is down to personal taste. I've only heard the Marantz which I didn't like. Incidentally Gasolin owns it and loves it so his preference would probably be Marantz. But the point is you may not like any of them. To give you an example. There are quite a few newer CD players on the market.

The oversized power supply feeds the digital and analog circuitry of the player, where the high-quality CS DAC converts digital signals to analog, this is then 'pushed' to the gold-plated synch outputs by Marantz's own small signal amplifier, the HDAM-SA2.

In addition, we have included a new remote that also controls the PM amp. Marantz developed its own discrete circuit boards to replace standard IC's.

Those devices are doing exactly the same thing as the Op-Amps, but outperform the regular IC Op-amps dramatically in terms of the Slew Rate and reduced noise level, resulting in a much more dynamic, accurate and detailed sound.

Over the years Marantz developed different types of the HDAM to improve quality and to fit to the special requirements of a product category like CD or amplifier.

Neither has actually been used yet owing to the fact that I am still in the middle of constructing the transmission line speakers.

However, I have noticed that the PM and CD combo from Marantz always seem to get rave reviews, and I wondered if these would be any better? The Marantz amp also has the advantage of digital inputs, which would be convenient for my TV sound, rather than using a separate DAC module. Fred Smith Well-known Member. The amplifier digital inputs are my first intro into digital audio not using analogue outputs where possible and are used for TV, CCA and the coax input a satellite receiver and they sound good as well.

I would dare say that the Marantz may sound better than the Denon. Both amps, with their respective sounds would be on the warm side but Marantz have a good reputation for the way they deliver the sound. The move could prove sideways rather than a leap forward. If you can use a separate DAC for your digital inputs then my money, for pure quality of sound, would be spent on a Rega Brio which will give a marked improvement over the Denon and the Marantz. As for the Marantz CD player, it is very good bit of kit and is capable of giving a very good detailed play.

Last edited: Jun 18, Personally the modern Marantz amps sound dull and lifeless to me. If you do fancy a change around that price range I'd recommend taking a look at Yamaha. You must log in or register to reply here. Top Bottom.
